June 15, 2017

Galena, Illinois - Today, small business owner Ann Williams held a press conference to announce in front of a sizeable crowd of supporters on the steps of the historic Ulysses S. Grant home in Galena that she is a candidate for State Representative of the 89th District in Illinois. Williams will be running on the Democratic ticket.

A resident of Galena, Williams was compelled to run for office because she wants to be a positive part of the solution in the political process. "No matter what party you are with, or how you voted in the last election, you are an important part of the 89th District," the candidate said. "I intend to listen to and represent all of you as State Representative with good ideas and measurable action."

Ann briefly spoke about the state of our nation, "Now is a unique time in our nation's history. Now, more than ever, the individual actions that people take in being engaged in the election process- you, your neighbors, the people you work with and worship with and socialize with - will have a direct impact on the quality of life you and your family members will live."

"Make sure you vote in every election," she finished.

Williams is starting off her campaign with a "Listening Tour" of the District, where she will spend time in every city, village, and town to listen to citizens and learn what issues they are concerned with. "I'll either be in the Jeep or on the motorcycle  - so say hello if you see me in your town," she stated, to the applause of the crowd. This will further inform her preliminary issues platform, which is online at

She is advocating for working families, economic health and opportunity for workers, businesses, and farms, and a bi-partisan approach that echoes Congresswoman Cheri Bustos' work

Williams' background is in the social services and nonprofit arenas. She grew up in the Midwest and attended college in Iowa, has a doctorate in Disability Studies and spent ten years in Washington, DC in leadership roles of national advocacy organizations. In 2015, she started a national consulting firm and is a research associate professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is mother to a young man with Down syndrome. This will be William's first political campaign.
